Universal Studios Hollywood Update – Late August 2018

Derrion/Sean: As peak season comes to and end, I decided to provide a quick update on the changes taking place at Universal Studios Hollywood. Including new updates for Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) 2018, which begins September 14!

Getting into the park it was clear that it wasn’t all too busy today. 

There was something important to note upon entry however, which are the new strobe lights for Halloween Horror Nights.

As a huge fan of the movie, I always love pointing out this original set piece from Jurassic Park/ World Franchise. Who can tell me what scene this is from?

There’s never a dull moment with character meet ‘n greets at Universal Studios Hollywood, like when you run into Beetlejuice in the park.

Next, I headed over to Waterworld and I noticed guests are using the barricades as an unofficial stroller parking area.

Needless to say, construction is progressing well on the new maze that will inhabit the Waterworld queue zone.

Laemmle Court is a wonderful place to relax and eat. The ambiance created by the fountain is amazing.

Fast forward to NY street where guests get to interact with some of the residents. Always a nice touch.

As it was only a ten minute wait, I decided to start with Dream Works Theatre: Featuring Kung Fu Panda adventure. This attraction, though having received mixed reviews,  is still a great way to cool down on a hot day in the park.

I wanted to get some good rides in on Jurassic Park before it goes extinct so I headed to the Lower Lot.

The Star Way had lots of construction going on to, including work being done on the concrete foundation.

The Revenge of The Mummy is always a must when on the Lower Lot. The ride has been rumored to be replaced for years now but is still going strong! The 15 minute wait isn’t too bad either!

Now time for Jurassic Park: The Ride. It’s time for an upgrade to restore it to its former glory. Many animatronics were missing this time around, we’re certainly ready for Jurassic World influences.

Now, onto Transformers!

I was able to stop by the back lot for a bit and noticed more maze construction in full effect. Not to sure what the themes will be of the exact construction projects, as of now.

I headed back into the park and of course it wouldn’t be a magical trip if I did not visit the most magical place in the world. Quick stop at Hogwarts for a ride on Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey. Slytherin House anyone?

Heading toward the Walking Dead, I noticed the Universal Plaza is also completely cleared of the Kung Fu Panda character meet and greets and additional merchandise, with progress beginning on another maze experience.

Also near Mel’s diner, there seems to be the first sign of Halloween decor in the park for this maze. My guess is Universal Monsters.

Lastly, it has yet to be announced which attractions will be replacing the Globe Theater, but it is completely gone now.
