Derrion: It is so exciting to see all of the new changes at Universal Studios Hollywood. Today we will take a look at the City Walk, general park updates, and the progressing construction of the parks newest additions including Jurassic World:The Ride set to open this summer!

City Walk

It was a perfect day for shopping. The only thing is that many of the retail stores are closed on City Walk.

I am excited to see all of the new venues that will be coming to City Walk in the coming months. The City Walk is 26 years old now and the company is doing great improving the building aesthetics and adding new additions that are currently popular in today’s retail market.

The list of closed stores includes Element, Angl, and the popular Sandals shop. I would personally love to see a mainstream shop such as Zara or Urban Outfitters on the City Walk. What retail shops would you all like to see come to City Walk at Universal Studios Hollywood?

It’Sugar is getting a nice face lift. The building that holds many of the employee offices above may also get a little refurb of its own.

I was sad to see the popular Camachos restaurant close because Mexican food is my favorite. However, given the extreme popularity of Antojitos Cocina Mexicana at City Walk at the Universal Orlando resort, I see it being a perfect fit! This restaurant is set to open this summer.

Park Updates

Just passing the security clearance at the front entrance of the park, the TV show Extra films daily Monday through Friday. I have had the pleasure of seeing Mario Lopez, the host, countless times. Be on the lookout on your next visit!

It is graduation season again and the park has decided to bring back Grad Bash in its second year. There are led lights set up throughout the park that have amazing digital displays.

The fun does not stop there, in the Universal Plaza there is a huge stage that has erupted almost over night. This stage will have various DJ’s during the event, including Marshmello.

The special events are unique because they appear after hours. However, the park closes early on these dates so plan ahead. Grad Bash takes place 5/17,5/23,5/30,5/31,6/6 and 6/7. I would not be surprised if the park uses the same set up for Pride is Universal which is a special event supporting LA pride on 6/1, tickets are now available for purchase.

The party does not stop there! The tri-wizard spirit rally is a fun way to get into the competitive spirit. It is a great time seeing some of the popular themes from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In true Slytherin fashion, I had to pay homage to my alma mater. The Hogwarts castle is magestic and holds so many beautiful secrets.

Back in the muggle world, the park opened a new Mexican restaurant. The menu offers burritos, tacos, taco salads, and even margaritas. Great addition to the park!

In not so good news, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is no longer 3D. The park has transitioned the attraction to be 2D similar to that of The Simpsons Ride. Unfortunately because of this it is not as immersive as it was and is my least favorite attraction in the park. The auditorium is huge and being able to see the edges of the screen is not very pleasing.
