The Wacky Soap Box Racer coaster at Knott’s Berry Farm opened in 1976 as Cycle Chase. It is a Special Coaster System Model made by Arrow Dynamics, known as a Steeplechase Coaster. This special style of Steeplechase coaster was known as a Motorbike Chase, and featured four motorcycle like vehicles racing side by side on a tubular track, that simulated dips and curves as if on a road.
Rider safety was a chief concern due to the riders high center of gravity due to the restraint system, forcing to be re themed and changed to Wacky Soap Box Racers in 1980. The vehicles were changed to four cars instead of cycles, that resembled soap box carved racing vehicles. The rides overall speed was decreased from 40mph to 30mph, but maintained the same exact track featuring a length of 1778 ft and a height of 27ft.
It was removed in 1996 to make room for the TOGO dual-track looper Windjammer Surf Racer. Today Xcelerator stands where the ride once stood.
