Magic Kingdom / TRON Update – January 2022

It’s been quite some time since we performed a proper TRON Lightcycle Run update, so for our first update of 2022 we decided to brave the Magic Kingdom holiday hysteria for some photos.

– In the past, many of our images have been posted, featured, and shared on forums, social media platforms and websites around the web. We work hard to provide the coverage that we do, and we encourage our audience to share our content and use our images, BUT ONLY IF proper credit is given to thecoasterkings.com. Thank you! –

Our first stop on this very busy Magic Kingdom day was Fantasyland’s Storybook Circus, home to the best midway-level vantage points of TRON construction. As construction has progressed, the site development has inched ever closer to the overflow queue / midway area for Goofy’s Barnstormer. To obscure the heavy construction from view, tarps and rolling planters have been positioned, making it harder to document changes in construction from that area.

A small satellite building has popped up on the Fantasyland side of the TRON plot – it matches the larger show building. We’re not exactly certain what the building will be used for, but based on its prominence in the area, we think food or merchandise is likely. After photographing the area from Fantasyland, we headed over to Tomorrowland for a ride on the Peoplemover – hopefully for some views of progress on the “front” side of the ride.

From here we can see how TRON‘s canopy is pretty much complete on a structural level. Below, the ride’s grand, sweeping entrance and approach are shaping up quickly. Unlike Shanghai Disneyland’s TRON, whose canopy hovers over a helix loop of general midway connecting upper and lower levels of Tomorrowland, Orlando’s TRON canopy will cover a “?-shaped” ramp that ends at TRON‘s entrance and exit.

Peoplemover also shows us how much of the foreground is coming along. The Walt Disney World Railroad will pass under the canopy, entrance walkway, and the coaster before continuing further into Tomorrowland, just to the right of the midway leading to TRON

Since we were there, we took a couple of evening shots of other Tomorrowland landmarks from Peoplemover.

And so concludes our most recent look at the highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom. Hopefully we’ll hear more details soon from Disney about the ride’s timeline. For now, at least we can enjoy watching this massive attraction come together. Until next time!
